received.The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has 2
outstanding openings for Research Scientist/Engineer 2. This
position reports to Dr. Alex Greninger in the Greninger Lab. This
position will support research looking at viral replication,
viral-host protein-protein interactions, drug efficacy, viral
evolution, and viral genome sequencing fields.DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Experimental Procedures and Management (50%)
- Perform molecular procedures including but not limited to
real-time PCR, Sanger sequencing, PCR product detection, DNA
sequencing, and next-generation sequencing.
- Prepare chemical, DNA, and RNA reagents used in laboratory
assays.
- Writing and editing manuscripts.
- Sequencing and proteomic analysis.
- Independently execute documented protocols for quantitative
viral detection on research and clinical specimens.
- Engage in developing novel assays, modifying and refining
procedures and techniques to obtain optimal results.
- Optimize protocols and troubleshoot experiments as necessary to
generate relevant data and improve data quality.
- Maintain complete, accurate, legible records. Thoroughly
document any modifications.
- Perform work accurately, precisely, and meet test completion
deadlines. Accommodate schedule changes to cooperatively accomplish
required daily work.
- Research and Project (35%)
- Assist in identifying research project goals; initiate small to
moderate size projects; work is organized and prioritized
appropriately.
- Assignments and projects are completed within specified time
frames; deadlines are consistently met.
- Lead projects of a small to moderate size and scope; make
substantial contributions to determining feasibility of goals and
objectives.
- Present and update research progress at lab meetings or joint
group settings.
- Contribute data and analyses for grant submissions and assist
in the preparation of publications and presentations.
- Analyze issues and projects thoroughly, considering all
factors; obtain and use resources as necessary.
- Other Duties (15%)
- Organization of laboratory including chemical and biological
safety, ordering, and processing orders.
- Train and monitor new employees and guest technicians in
experimental procedures and assays, laboratory safety, and database
maintenance.
- Coordinate gatekeeper responsibilities for sample
repository.
- Perform other duties as required.MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, or related
field AND 2 years of relevant experience, OR Equivalent combination
of education/experience.Desired Knowledge/Skills:PCR, primers and
probe design, PCR product detection, next-generation sequencing,
DNA sequencing analysis, DNA sequence analysis programs. Molecular
biology background, PCR, sequencing, computer programming ability
to analyze sequencing data.Application Process:The application
