Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, you will support various projects related to metallurgical materials, processes and hardware used in liquid rocket engines.We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate metallic materials for usage in liquid rocket engines, taking into consideration mechanical properties, thermal properties, and environmental factors.
  • Ensure forging or casting processes have sufficient controls to ensure a repeatable process.
  • Interface with supply base on technical issues concerning raw materials, part fabrication, and new materials/processes.
  • Perform development and qualification testing for forgings or castings to ensure performance in operation.
  • Generate documentation against metallic material and process specifications to ensure adequate process control.
  • Provide technical support and disposition of nonconformances from the application of forging or casting process control requirements.
  • Support technology development efforts, such as alloy development or process optimization. This will require hands-on coordination with lab personnel.Minimum Qualifications:
    • B.S. degree or higher in Material Science & Engineering, with a focus on metallurgy.
    • Hands-on experience with material property testing and microstructural evaluation.
    • Familiarity with at least one of the following standard methods for testing mechanical properties of metallic materials: tensile, fatigue, fracture, creep, stress rupture.
    • Interest and ability to build expertise in forging, melting, or casting materials and processes.
    • Hands-on experience with building or implementing test equipment, jigs, etc.
    • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
    • Interest and ability to support both production and technology development.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications:
      • Experience with databases and data analysis techniques.
      • Experience with statistical process control and analysis.
      • Knowledge of thermodynamic modeling using CALPHAD based applications.
      • Knowledge of casting or forging process modeling software.
      • Experience with failure analysis and forensic investigations.
      • Industry experience with any of the following: forging, powder metallurgy, alloy production, heat treatment, welding, non-destructive evaluation.
      • Knowledge of alloy systems, such as Nickel-based, Copper-based, Titanium-based, and Aluminum-based.
